A magnificent working farm - first established as a Beef and Timber farm by a German gentleman farmer, whose attention to detail is still evident. He established post & rail fencing around the lands, a grand home, plus a managers home, extensive farm sheds, pastures and dams – plus all the other infrastructure needed to operate a successful farming enterprise. There are also ancient oak trees, undulating kikuyu pastures, indigenous forest, pine plantations and good access roads throughout the farm.
The property is situated 35km from both Knysna and Plettenberg Bay.
Water: The gem of this property is the extensive volume of registered water - over 780 000m3. Four dams, with one of the dams being large enough to water-ski on!
Soil: This area has very good depth of soils, up to
70cm in some areas with good drainage.
Timber: Historic planting rights exist which is rare to find, as planting permits are becoming scarce. There is over 100ha of pine plantations some newly planted and others are second generation pines. The timber is currently being worked at the sawmill on the property which is operated in the farm sheds which are over 4500m2 in extent.
Pastures: About 20 years ago there were over 140ha of established pastures, of which 100ha were irrigated.
Cattle: When the pastures were in full production, they could carry 350 head of cattle. Currently there are about 70 happy fat Nguni's.
Tourism: In recent years the cabin at the lake has been open to the public and has been very successfully booked, bringing in a good supplementary income. It seems that since Covid, people are more adventurous, which makes one consider adding a couple more cabins here in the heart of the farm. Added to which the adjoining farm is a fully fenced game farm offering daily game drives to the local tourists, plus there are plenty of walks and bird watching around the farm.
Other opportunities: The balance of the land has quite a gradient, where pine will grow well, however, previous felled lands have not yet been replanted, allowing for pioneer plants to take over resulting in an area of potential firewood and / or charcoal production.
This property is a rare find - If you have ever taken the road up to Uniondale from Plett, you would have driven passed and remembered this magnificent property, the farm with the post and rail fencing, the oak trees with the brown and white cows grazing in the fields.
However, the time has come to find a new custodian of this remarkable place.
