Soil type
Most farms in this region feature a mix of granite and alluvial soils, which contributes to the area’s strong suitability for wine, fruit, and irrigated farming. The majority of the farm’s soil is classified as Clovelly soil type, characterized by yellowish-brown sandy loam. It is deep, well-drained, and contains few stones, making it ideal for agricultural use. The land is slightly sloped and the soil offers excellent workability and supports strong root penetration.
Vineyards and Arable Land
The farm is partially planted with vineyards under drip irrigation. Twenty-three hectares are under cultivars such as Chenin Blanc (4.03 ha), Sauvignon Blanc (2.67 ha), Pinotage (5.4 ha), Shiraz (5.1 ha), Viognier (3.0 ha), and Chardonnay (3.03 ha). On average, about 10 t/ha is produced. Quality grapes are currently supplied to the nearby Nederburg Cellar.
Additional arable land includes ±3.5 ha of dryland oats hay in winter, and ±2 ha of lucerne or teff under sprinkler irrigation.
